Attorney Warren Cassell has won his appeal against a conviction for concealing EC$855,380.54 in illicit financial gains. The court found a “miscarriage of justice,” overturning the three-and-a-half-year prison sentence he had received.
Cassell, a Montserrat-born lawyer based in Antigua, had been convicted in 2013 for transferring the funds from an investor’s account to a corporate account linked to land sales at Providence Estate between 2007 and 2008.
The original trial, led by Justice Stanley John, saw Cassell defend himself. He had faced a maximum sentence of 14 years under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
