A woman in her 40s was killed after being run over by a truck during Labour Day activities near Fort James Beach on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly before 4pm as the woman reportedly attempted to climb onto the moving vehicle but slipped and was crushed by its wheel. Emergency Medical Services, already nearby, arrived within two minutes but she died at the scene from severe upper-body injuries.
Her son, who witnessed the tragedy, has been left traumatised.
Earlier that afternoon, another woman suffered serious leg injuries in a separate truck-related incident.
EMS teams have been kept busy throughout the day attending to multiple medical emergencies linked to the celebrations.
An investigation is underway.
