Antigua Cruiseport is advancing work on a new terminal facility as part of a wider upland development project, with completion expected before the peak of the 2025–2026 cruise season.

Officials say the island is on track to welcome nearly one million cruise passengers from October 2025 to May 2026, a figure that represents more than a 25% increase over the same period last year.

The new terminal, along with associated amenities, is seen as a key step in Antigua and Barbuda’s bid to become a recognised homeporting destination. Arvia, the main vessel for homeporting, is expected to bring increased activity to the port, particularly in late October and November.

George, a spokesperson for Antigua Cruiseport, confirmed that all systems are in place to ensure smooth transitions on homeporting days. He noted that the “fly and cruise” system, which coordinates charter flights with cruise arrivals and departures, has already proven effective during previous homeporting operations at VC Bird International Airport.

“The homeporting terminal aims to enhance the guest experience, making it more seamless and enjoyable for cruise passengers,” he said.

Authorities are also working closely with the city of St John’s and the Royal Antigua and Barbuda Police Force to maintain order and security as operations shift to the new facility.

The project underscores Antigua and Barbuda’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its cruise industry and support its growing tourism sector.
