As part of its 44th anniversary celebrations, the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force has donated essential medical equipment to the Fiennes Institute.

Brigadier Selbert Benjamin, accompanied by senior officers, handed over two reclining chairs and a mobile hoist during a visit to the long-term care facility. Officials said the donation was aimed at improving comfort and safety for both residents and caregivers.

“It is customary for the Defence Force to make some form of contribution to those who are resident here,” Lt Col Michael. “We do this because we recognise that, at some point in their lives, they made a worthwhile contribution to the nation.”

The initiative was carried out in partnership with Dr Tanya Smith of Trinity Medical Services, who also serves as a military officer.

During the ceremony, Brigadier Benjamin said the Defence Force would continue to support the institute in future. “We hope these items will be put to the best use in the interest of the residents, and we intend to provide further assistance wherever possible,” he said.

Staff at the Fiennes Institute expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as a meaningful gesture that would enhance daily care for elderly residents.
