The Department of Culture is relaunching **“Folklore”**, a costume design project. The competition is tailored for students between the ages of seven (7) to twenty-one (21) years old in an effort to further educate and preserve our traditional, folk/cultural mas characters.

The contest requires the creation of the applicants’ own design inspired by a traditional cultural character. The competition is divided into two categories:

  • 7-13 – must present a design of the “Carnival Clown” also known as the “Fancy Clown”
  • 14-21 – must present a design of the “John Bull”.

Each category will have a first (1st), second (2nd) and third (3rd) place from each category. The 1st place winners will be able to see their costume become a reality and also participate in a costume building experience with established Antiguan costume designers and builders to get first-hand experience in costume making from concept to reality.

Cash prizes for each category:

  • 1st Place – $500
  • 2nd Place – $300
  • 3rd Place – $200
