The National Housing and Urban Development Company Limited has announced plans to construct 15 new homes across Antigua and Barbuda as part of its Build on Your Own Land Programme, which supports individuals who already own property but wish to develop it through government-assisted construction.

According to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant, the initiative will see homes built in several communities, including Painters, Radio Range, Villa, Low Pasture, Clarks Hill, All Saints, Jennings, Quesada Gardens, New Winthrops, McKinnons, Glanvilles, and Herberts.

Merchant said the programme represents a key component of the government’s affordable housing drive, which aims to make home ownership more accessible while stimulating employment in the construction sector.

He noted that contractors are now being sought to undertake the upcoming projects. “National Housing is looking for contractors to execute this construction on individuals’ private lands,” he said, encouraging qualified builders to express interest through the company.

The Build on Your Own Land initiative differs from traditional government housing schemes, as it allows individuals to have homes constructed on property they already possess, with design and financing support provided through National Housing.

The company says the programme will expand in phases, with additional construction planned as part of broader national efforts to increase housing availability and improve community development.
