Prime Minister Gaston Browne says a newly built eight-bedroom, four-bathroom house for a 29-member family will be fully furnished before the family moves in.

The home was constructed through the Government’s Housing Assistance for the Poor and Indigent (HAPI) programme after officials identified the family’s difficult living conditions during the election campaign.

Several related households had been sharing a badly deteriorated building with inadequate facilities.

Browne credited Minister of State Michael Joseph for bringing the situation to the Government’s attention, while praising Social and Urban Transformation Minister Rawdon Turner and Cabinet for supporting and funding the project.

He said the development demonstrates the impact HAPI can have on vulnerable families by providing safer and more suitable housing.

Browne also recognised Inspector Ragge, whom he credited with starting the initiative that later developed into HAPI. He said Ragge initially carried out home repairs voluntarily with assistance from King Casino before former minister Samantha Marshall brought the initiative to the Government’s attention, leading to its adoption as a national programme.
