Prime Minister Gaston Browne is pressing the United States to explain why Antigua and Barbuda is considered a national-security threat warranting visa restrictions.

Speaking Saturday, Browne said his administration remains in discussions with officials from the US State Department and has written directly to President Donald Trump seeking clarification.

The Prime Minister said Antigua and Barbuda has no known hostile posture toward the United States and that his government is unaware of any incident that could justify the measures.

Browne also raised questions about the treatment of Caribbean countries operating Citizenship by Investment programmes.

He noted that several affected states have diplomatic relations with China, while some countries aligned with Taiwan have not faced similar restrictions.

He said the comparison was merely an observation and not a suggestion that measures should be imposed on any other country.

Browne acknowledged that leaders of small developing states have limited direct access to a US president unless Washington facilitates broader engagement with the region.
