Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called for greater investment in young people, saying the Commonwealth’s success should be measured by the opportunities it creates for future generations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda, Browne highlighted scholarships, research partnerships, professional exchanges and digital technology as key areas for development.
He said these opportunities would help young people start businesses, advance scientific research and strengthen public institutions.
Browne also stressed the need to remove barriers preventing women from participating equally.
He urged governments, businesses, universities and civil society to work together to deliver practical results.
The Prime Minister said democracy, human rights, the rule of law and respect for national sovereignty must remain central to the Commonwealth’s efforts to strengthen economic cooperation.
